Hello there, my dearest friend works as an actress and she has told me that all her earnings go towards her agent and agency, and she doesn’t get any of it,
something is telling me that that is wrong and it’s only a certain % that they should be getting.

Am I wrong with this or is what is being done to her illegal?

Hard to know without seeing the scope of services being provided by the agent/manager.

I'm thinking a starting point is 10-20% commission, but can go higher depending on services, I wouldn't expect any more than 50% at the top end for standard type roles and you'd want a lot of service for that amount.

Your friend should be ringing around other agents.

Of course your friend could just be pulling your strings.

So if it’s true and they are taking all her money, it’s definitely illegal correct? What should she do if this is actually the case? Where would I be able to find more information about this under law?

Certainly something amiss there.

Your friend should join the MEAA.
Everybody in "the industry" should be in it.
