Hi,

I have shoplifted some items worth around $ 100 from Target. At the same time, I paid for the items that I bought for $ 50.

While I was making my way out of the store, the director blinked and a lady at the store stopped me and asked to show the receipt. She saw the receipt and said I can leave.

This is my first time doing this. I am terrified... Unable to sleep from 4 days. Please let me know can / will they track me down. Will I be arrested for shoplifting?

The Items would have had some form of Radio Frequency Tags that will set off the Detectors at the Store entrance, these Tags aren't 'trackable', so no, the Store cannot " track you down"!

Shoplifting is stealing, and you may end up with a criminal record if caught, which will affect your employment opportunities, etc, etc. Also you could be hit with heavy fines, so best not to do it.

If your conscience is keeping you awake at night, you should approach the Store and return the stolen items. If you are concerned about criminal charges just do it anonymously, just leave the items at the Service Desk.

Thank you... Definitely I will do that, I will make a way to put back the items.

Another question... I paid for the $50 with my credit card... Is there a possibility that they can check back the items that are lost... And track me with the card details...?

No, there will be no connection between your Credit Card and the unpaid items in your Bag. The Credit Card will only be associated with the Items that were paid for.

Thank you... One last question...

Sorry, I am bothering you, but I am very terrified. Is there a chance that while checking the stock/ inventory, if they feel the items are missing as those items don't show up in the selling list...? They track the CCTV footage and track me down...

I really don't think that they would take the extreme action of viewing hours and hours of video because an item was missing.
If you are really worried about consequences, then I would take the Items back and explain to the Service Desk Person that due to a 'memory lapse' you left the Store without paying for the Items. Explain that the Alarm at the Exit went off, your bag was checked and you were sent on your way, only when you got home did you find the unpaid for Items. It's a bit of a 'white lie' but if it helps you sleep at night then so be it. Offer to pay for the items on the spot, and I'm certain that will be the end of it.
