2006 - more than 10 yrs ago, should not be an issue.
I had a mate caught in NSW recently - each state is different - but he got 6 mths off the road and 2 yrs with an interlock device in his car after that. Google search 'interlock' for a more detailed explanation that I can provide... also an $800 fine. The interlock costs about $2000 a year to have installed in the car.
But it depends on stuff like circumstances - was it a road side RBT? did he cause an accident? Was he compliant with the cops? Was he pulled over because his driving was erratic? Did he have an open beer bottle in his lap when pulled over?

I just read in the news some time ago that it will be no tolerance for drink driving, it should be Zero!!!! and hefty fines, I am not sure if this is applied yet, and in some states, so I don't think the outcome will be a happy one for your husband. Sorry.
