My partner and I seperated over 1 year ago and we have a 1 and a half year old son. He was phyically and verbally abusive to me before and after I had our son. He threaten to kill me and our son, stab my mother, smashed our house, he has also self harmed and tried to commit suicide. I filed in court and was granted a Domestic Violence Order immediately.

However, I did not cease contact with our son and himself and organised for him and his family to have visits supervised. There were 25 attempts to organise visits through family members but he only attended 6 visits. On one visit he refused to give baby back, which led us to family court.

At court he disputed paternity and didn't want any visits until paternity was confirmed. Once confirmed he was granted supervised visits with an organisation. We are now going back to court because he wants the protection order lifted because he has completed a violence course and I am terrified.

Any information or help? A bit overwhelmed on what to expect in court and if its possible to keep the protection order?

How long is left on the IVO?

You can ask to keep the order in place. It may be possible to extend it if there have been breaches.

However, it may well be the case your ex has turned his life around. Sometimes a bloke needs to do some stupid things to realise he needs to change.

Hi thankyou Rod for your reply, the order has been in place for 6 months, but he has posted on social media while doing his violence programme and while the order was in place that he wanted to commit suicide and God has a higher calling for him and my son. It is scary that he is talking like that and wants the protection order lifted.

Then object to the lifting and ask for an extension.

What do you mean by 'final'?

Are you saying the current IVO is only at the interim stage?
