I contacted a plumber via telephone for an estimate to repair my damaged guttering during the telephone conversation with the receptionist she took my details email etc.and arranged for someone to call at no stage did she mention there would be a fee, a tradesman came told me the whole of the guttering needed replacing and would send the estimate via email again there was no mention of a fee, the quotation came by email again no mention of any fee for said quote, the quote was three times as much as my other two quotations, so obviously I didn't go with the mentioned company later I received an invoice for $99.00 for the quote, I refused to pay and they are now threatening legal proceedings to get this money, do I have to pay
Thank you

Hi Rod,

Check any documentation you got from them to see if it mentions any fee for a quote. If it doesn't, it sounds like a 'try on' by this company. They'd be crazy to sue for $99, its just not economical. That threat could be a try on too. Check their website too, to see if they mention a fee for quotes or not. Good luck.

Sounds a bit like a scam to me.... they may deliberately overprice their work in order to scam people this fee, it could be their main business??. I would be reporting them to authorities as well as not paying.
