Thank you for your time.

I have been under the help of specialists for a long time and my processing / adaptive abilities are low. I usually just can't understand what I see or hear at the time, and need extra time to understand and make decisions or do what I a supposed to do.

I know that this is a really big problem for me whenever I get around the court stuff and people. I have spent a lot of extra time trying to learn the rules, acts and what the courts expect/ need of me.

When last minute stuff is served while at the court, and then the judge wants me to read and decide in 15 minutes - I just can't do it. I need to go away and read alone and then get a trusted friend (not a legal person, just a friend) to help me understand what it all means.

But how can I put this in terms to the courts, so that I can get reasonable extra time to make decisions because - they keep expecting me to cope with stuff put on to me at the last minute, or on the day of court.

While the trial is happening and not be at more disadvantaged than I am now as she has lots of lawyers/ barristers.

Thank you for your time

Any time you are served with new material at the 11th hour, what you do is ask the Court for an adjournment so that you have time to consider and, if necessary, respond to the material served on you that morning. You need to understand that it's usually the other party that's putting the pressure on you to consider the material, not the Court.

You should have already filed material relating to your disability and refer to that as needed.

Thankyou Rod and allforher,

I know what allowances I need in life but never thought about asking for extra time in court.

Must admit I feel foolish asking for it but makes sense that I need to get over being embarrassed.

The court had my specialist info and diagnosed disabilities filed last year, I’ve just never addressed it as I’m usually unable to speak.

Thanks guys will get into it

Cheers
