Look at it this way....

He's applied for a Protection Visa.
So, either he has applied because he has a well founded fear of persecution in Pakistan,
or is at real risk of significant harm if he returns home.
But he feels safe enough to go home to get married.

Do you not see how inherently illogical this position is?

(I am assuming here that he is not simply lying in his application)

no he isn't lying, but getting married is an important part of life and he's alone in Australia, and since our huge families can't afford to travel abroad, him coming here only for a few days seemed like an option. .. guess it isn't, then.

You can ask for permission to visit the country you have sought refuge from, but the reasons have to be compelling. You are NOT allowed to travel on the passport of the country without specific permission of the department. If you do, they say you are accepting the protection of that country and they will then cancel the 866 visa https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/Forms/Documents/1463.pdf

If you say you want to return to Pakistan for a wedding, kiss goodbye to the 866 visa
