Hi Guys! I was just wondering if someone's charged with possession/supply how long does it take for the police or whoever to test the drugs or how long does it take for the results to be available to the courts? And if the person is pleading guilty is it necessary for this to be done in order to be sentenced?

Hi @Tatum82
Have a look at the QLD Police page https://www.police.qld.gov.au/programs/roadsafety/drugdriving.htm - which gives an idea that they can get a relatively quick turnaround of drug testing for saliva and specimen samples, within say 24 hours, but I imagine it depends on the lab testing the samples.

A drugs offence is a serious criminal offence and you should not take it lightly. Even if you plead guilty, the police will likely have the evidence organised to prove the offence. I encourage you to seek personalised legal advice from a criminal lawyer.

Thanks! I not too sure if I explaining this properly it's not for me, my sister's boyfriend got charged with possess a dangerous drug and we were wondering whether he can just go in and plead guilty or does he have to wait till police lab test the drugs to confirm that they are actually drugs, purity etc? Someone said that even though he was charged with 2 grams that they'll test it to see whether it pure or whether it has a cutting agent mixed in with it but whether it a bag of 80% cut and 20% drugs it's not going to change what he was charged with will it? It's still possession so is the lab results necessary if he isn't disputing the charge? And how long will he have to wait for a court to receive the lab results if they are needed? We live in Qld.
